AAA batteries are commonly used in small electronic devices such as TV remote controls, MP3 players and digital cameras. Devices operating at the same voltage but requiring higher current intensities use larger AA batteries.

AA batteries have three times the capacity of AAA batteries. However, with the increased efficiency and miniaturisation of modern electronics, many products originally designed for AA batteries are now being replaced by models that accept AAA batteries.

A AAA battery measures 44.5mm in length and 10.5mm in diameter. Alkaline AAA batteries weigh about 11.5 grams each, lithium AAA batteries approximately 7.6 grams, and rechargeable (Ni-MH) AAA batteries typically weigh between 14 and 15 grams. The nominal voltage of alkaline and lithium AAA batteries is 1.5V, while Ni-MH or NiCd batteries have 1.2V. The capacity of alkaline AAA batteries is usually between 900 and 1155mAh (3240 to 4158 coulombs).
