AAA batteries are frequently used in small electronic devices such as TV remote controls, MP3 players, and digital cameras. Devices that operate at the same voltage but require higher current intensities use larger AA batteries. AA batteries have three times the capacity of AAA batteries. However, with increased efficiency and miniaturisation of modern electronics, many products designed for AA batteries are being replaced by models accepting AAA batteries.

An AAA battery measures 44.5 mm in length and 10.5 mm in diameter. Alkaline AAA batteries weigh about 11.5 grams each, lithium AAA batteries approximately 7.6 grams, and rechargeable (Ni-MH) batteries typically weigh between 14 and 15 grams. The nominal voltage of alkaline and lithium AAA batteries is 1.5V, while Ni-MH or NiCd batteries have 1.2V. The capacity of alkaline AAA batteries usually ranges between 900 and 1155 mAh (3240 to 4158 coulombs).
